Lawmakers and Community Leaders Voice Support, UC Workers Enter 3rd Day of Strike

(OAKLAND, CA) – Yesterday, lawmakers and community leaders joined the picket lines at the University of California’s 5 major medical centers in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Irvine, and Sacramento in support of the University’s striking patient care workers. The over 15,000 hospital workers—joined by 9,000 service workers and 15,000 technical workers—have been on strike since Tuesday over concerns of the University’s practice of outsourcing jobs to private firms that pay lower wages, provide fewer benefits, and expose workers to a higher risk of labor abuse like wage theft....

ADVISORY: UC Nurses and Technical Employees to Join Striking AFSCME Workers

(OAKLAND, CA) – Today, AFSCME Local 3299, which represents over 25,000 Service and Patient Care Technical workers at the University of California, will be joined on the second day of a three-day strike by the California Nurses Association (CNA), which represents14,000 UC nurses, and the University Professional and Technical Employees' (UPTE-CWA), which represents 15,000 UC workers.
