Dear Members of Local 3299:

Congratulations on a historic victory! Last Thursday, the overwhelming majority of the membership voted to put members first in our union. In an unprecedented moment of rank and file union democracy, 66% spoke out for real change – for better representation, contracts and a real voice in our union. Nearly 4600 members voted in the election, a first in our local’s history!

We face many challenges ahead — attacks on our benefits, cuts to higher education and health care and mistreatment by management in the workplace. It won’t be easy. It will take hard work and active involvement on the part of every single member to build the union we deserve.

As your newly elected President, I am excited to face these challenges with you and accomplish our vision for our members, students, and patients.

The membership of 3299 have spoken loud and clear: we want our needs put before elected officers. And our voices will not be ignored.

Together, with our vision and strength, members will be first in our union again.

I look forward to working with you to build the union we deserve.

In Solidarity,

Kathryn Lybarger
President AFSCME 3299
