AFSCME 3299 president Kathryn Lybarger and the California Labor Federation’s Art Pulaski are calling on the University of California to make sure private university contract workers are paid the same as university employees doing similar work. They urged the UC regents to Senate Bill 376, which would legally require that parity in compensation. AFSCME 3299 says there’s a large number of private contractor workers at UC being aid as much as 53 percent less than university employees. So far the university has not supported the bill, saying only that it is continuing to evaluate the bill and its implementation costs.
