Dear Members & Supporters,

It’s been an intense week at AFSCME’s 40th International Convention, and I’d like to give you a brief update, with hopefully more to follow soon.

1) We had a fantastic rally in LA on Wednesday, that started with close to 200 members showing up to bargaining and scaring the pants off of management. Great work all of you on some good turnout at our rallies to support our bargaining team around the state.

2) We won the appeal of our election! Let’s keep moving on!

3) California has two new IVPs (International Vice Presidents) and one of them is your President, me. As Francisco Arrellano, one of our Executive Board members from the UC Irvine Medical Center, put it- “I feel different now than I did five minutes ago. I feel more powerful.” Go 3299! Let’s rock California.

4) Finally, we have a new President, named Lee Saunders, and Secretary-Treasurer, named Laura Reyes. Our Executive Board endorsed them both and look forward to continue working with them in the fight for Working Families across the US. Good stuff.

Onward,
Kathryn

PS- Be on the look out for our Bargaining Update #1 to come out very shortly, you’ll be shocked at what UC is proposing!
