Bargaining Update #2 (2007): AFSCME is Ready to Step it Up!
Posted On Aug 2nd, 2007
Taking Back Our UC! Bargaining Begins!
On Thursday, August 2, AFSCME Bargaining Team Members met with UC Management at the UC Davis Medical Center for the first time to review our proposals.
Every member of our negotiating team – 20 members strong – spoke united about the need for UC to agree to our proposals for a new contract. Our proposals say the priority at UC should be workers, patients, students, families and communities. Team member Robert Pinto told management, “our proposals aren’t exorbitant – its just what other workers doing the same jobs we do have in the state.”
We stood up for our right to have an open and transparent bargaining process, with our whole elected bargaining team at every negotiations. Members form the UC Davis Medical Center came to bargaining, showing their support.
Thousands of UC Workers Sticker Up!
Thousands of UC workers wore “Step it Up” stickers on the first day of Bargaining.
“This sticker-up shows management we are unified, and let our coworkers and patients know what we are fighting for!” said Ludwin Paredes, a Care Partner at UCLA Medical Center.
“Our patients should know we need Steps in order to recruit and retain excellent Staff,” explained John Tinker, a Radiologic Technologist at UC Davis Medical Center.
What’s Next?
Our Bargaining Team will meet again with UC Management on August 14, 29, and 30.
In September, MAT and Bargaining Team members will be holding membership meetings throughout the state about our proposals, the status of negotiations, and upcoming actions we will take to win the contract we deserve.
