Why Are UC Workers on Strike?
Because UC keeps breaking the law.
Healthcare Professionals, Research Professionals, and Technical Workers who make up the union UPTE-CWA 9119 have filed an Unfair Labor Practices charge against the University. UC is bypassing bargaining to increase their health care premiums unilaterally and refusing to bargain over wages for new members of the bargaining unit. UPTE members are taking a stand against these bad-faith tactics, and we’re standing in solidarity too! We, service and patient care workers of AFSCME 3299, know the feeling! We refuse to stand by.
“I’m standing in solidarity with my siblings of UPTE because that’s the morally correct thing to do. We work side by side with them to deliver the best care in the state. We understand how UC’s bad-faith bargaining tactics affect us– our children, our patients, and our communities. It’s time UC stops breaking the law. An injury to one is an injury to all!!.”

“UPTE represents direct patient care workers in UC hospitals that AFSCME members work side by side with. The UC is treating them the same way they are treating us by using unfair labor practices and not bargaining in good faith. Side by side on the front lines, and on the strike line. We are stronger together.”
