Esther Banuelos emigrated from Zacatecas, Mexico in 1990 and she has come a long way since. A Sr. Custodian at UCSB for the last eighteen years, it’s been Esther’s pleasure to take care of students. But, when the COVID-19 Pandemic hit, she accepted a position working in the COVID-19 testing area at UCSB. “It’s something that concerns me. I know I have to constantly watch my surroundings. If it wasn’t because we pushed back we would not have received proper PPE. That was something we fought for and it brings me a peace of mind.”

As a single mother of three, Esther works and lives for her family.  “My kids are my reason for living. I fight to make a better world for them that’s why I will continue to raise awareness of the importance of COVID-19 prevention.”
