Here’s an update.
PERB Agrees: SX Bargaining is at an Impasse
On August 7th, UC and our bargaining team declared an Impasse. Meaning, both parties were not able to reach an agreement and neither has additional movement to make at this time. When we reach impasse, we call on a neutral party to step in and help. We filed in early September, and PERB has responded in agreement.
We will now head into Mediation on October 23rd and 24th.
PCT Bargaining Starts October 12th.
October 12th and 13th is the first session of PCT bargaining with UC. United, with service workers, we’ll fight for a fair contract that secures a future for us, our families, and patients. We’re standing strong against UC’s disrespectful takeaways that include:
- Emergency Layoffs
- Contracting Out
- Risky 401(k) Opt-Out
- Healthcare Cuts
Similar to our SX and PCT Team, our UCSC Skilled Crafts Team is at the table to secure our jobs, benefits, fair wage increases, and our future. After 4 sessions UC Santa Cruz has yet to pass many of its initial proposals, including wages, retirement benefits, and health care. Instead, management is choosing to interfere with our Bargaining Team’s participation by threatening to short Team members’ hours and take away overtime.
The UCSC Skilled Crafts contract expires on September 30th, 2017.
In the months since our first bargaining session in May, UC Hastings has proposed takeaway after takeaway, including a wage freeze and the elimination of health and pension benefit protections. Management has also opposed our position that employees should be allowed to observe the bargaining process. Our bargaining team has fought back against these attacks, and will continue to fight until we win a fair contract.
UNITED FOR A STRONG CONTRACT.

UCSF: HLT’s Win Removal of Hostile Supervisor!
Fear and intimidation did not stop UCSF’s HLT-II’s to win the removal of their supervisor. After months of facing harassment and intimidation by their supervisor, Claudia Russo and her coworkers decided enough was enough and they wouldn’t continue to put patient care at risk.
They began by circulating a petition demanding the Lab Director make patient and staff safety a priority. The petition, which collected 100% of signatures, demanded for the removal of their supervisor as a top priority. After months of fighting and agitating, the Lab director conceded to our demands!
It took some time, but after months of fighting, members won the right to work in a harassment free work environment. Another victory that proves that when AFSCME 3299 fights, we win!

REMINDER: Starting today, Monday, October 2nd selected campuses will begin having joint coalition meetings with UPTE and CNA. We’ll be learning about why UC’s risky 401(k) is a raw deal for everyone except UC, and how we plan to win against this attack! See below for an event near you.
