The University of California Retirement System (UCRS) Advisory Board is currently holding an election to nominate a UC worker on to the Board.
The UCRS Advisory Board advises the UC on issues related to our retirement benefits, including our pension that is currently under attack. Although decisions are non-binding, having a seat at the table is critical for raising our concerns and accessing the information that’s needed to protect what we’ve earned. Our best defense is strong worker representation on the UCRS Advisory Board.
We need to make sure our voice is heard in this critical election. We’re fighting hard to protect our pension from UC’s attacks, and this is just one other way to do so. The UCRS Advisory Board is filled with mostly management representatives, so we must ensure that we have strong union representation to protect the pension and retiree health benefits we’ve earned! That’s why CNA, AFSCME, UPTE, and AFT have endorsed AFSCME 3299 Member Ruth Zolayvar.
Inpatient Pharmacy Technician III,
UCSD Medical Center
My name is Ruth Zolayvar and I have worked as a Pharmacy Technician at UC-San Diego Medical Center for 13 years. I am a member of AFSCME Local 3299 and serve on the Union’s Executive Board and Bargaining Team. We represent 26,000 service and patient care technical workers at UC. I am deeply committed to the health of the UC Retirement System, and in particular, to preserving the defined benefit (DB) pension. The pension is one of the University’s most important tools to attract and maintain a first class workforce serving UC patients and students. Equally important, the pension is the primary source of retirement income that enables represented staff, particularly important for low wages workers, to retire with dignity and security.
