UC Davis Coalition Delegates UC Management, Holds Hearing Outside Bargaining

On March 19, 2007 the UC Union Coalition Bargaining Team (UCUC) met with the University at UC Davis. Outside Bargaining, Community Leaders held a Workers Rights Board hearing on UC’s Pension Paycuts.

After the hearing, the Workers Rights Board joined dozens of Davis workers at the bargaining table, expressing concern that Sacramento’s largest employer is neither compassionate to its workers, nor accountable to the public. “If you are going to act like a corporation, you WILL be treated like one!” promised UAW member Tarone Bittners.

UCLA Coalition Members Deliver 8,000 Pension Postcards to Regents!

On March 15, UCLA workers delivered an immense pile of pension postcards to the UC Regents. Coalition members piled stacks and stacks of postcards on the floor in front of the Regents. “Cost shifting of benefits and pensions to employees, many of whom already receive below market wages, is unacceptable!” stated CUE member Lyn Kelly.

UC Makes Very Slight Movement on Wage Issue

After months of Coalition bargaining, UC has proposed minimal wage increases to the lowest paid UC workers in exchange for a July 1, 2007 redirect of the 2% DCP Contribution into the Pension. UC continues to propose no increases for the overwhelming majority of UC workers.

While we will review UC’s proposal and continue to negotiate, the Coalition is committed that we will not accept pension paycuts for our members, and will continue to push the University on bringing members up to market!
