AFSCME International

Government Links

Bureau of Labor Statistics
The principal Federal agency responsible for measuring labor market activity, working conditions, and price changes in the economy. Its mission is to collect, analyze, and disseminate essential economic information to support public and private decision-making. As an independent statistical agency, BLS serves its diverse user communities by providing products and services that are objective, timely, accurate, and relevant.

 

Public Employees Relations Board
The Public Employment Relations Board (PERB or Board) is a quasi-judicial administrative agency charged with administering the collective bargaining statutes covering employees of California’s public schools, colleges, and universities, employees of the State of California, employees of California local public agencies (cities, counties and special districts), trial court employees and supervisory employees of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

 

Occupational Safety and Health Administration
Protects workers and the public from safety hazards through its Cal/OSHA, elevator, amusement ride, aerial tramway, ski lift and pressure vessel programs, and provides consultative assistance to employers.

 

Constituency Groups

Pride At Work
A nonprofit organization and an officially recognized constituency group of the AFL-CIO (American Federation of Labor & Congress of Industrial Organizations.) PAW organizes mutual support between the organized Labor Movement and the LGBT Community for social and economic justice.

 

APRI
A. Philip Randolph Institute or APRI is the home for black trade unionists dedicated to racial equality and economic justice and central to building a black labor alliance worldwide.

 

CBTU
Coalition of Black Trade Unionists – Since the earliest days of this nation when democracy was built on racial exploitation, black workers have risked their lives to protect and empower their communities through agitation, collective action and faith. The Coalition of Black Trade Unionists proudly carries that tradition into the 21st century.

 

LCLAA
Labor Council for Latin American Advancement – An organization designed to bring together all the Latin American men and women union members in the United States. LCLAA builds political empowerment of the Latino family, supports economic and social justice for all workers, and promotes greater cultural diversity at the workplace.

 

APALA
Founded in 1992, Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA) is the first and only national organization of Asian Pacific American union members to advance worker, immigrant and civil rights.

 

Common Cause
Nonprofit, nonpartisan citizen’s lobbying organization promoting open, honest and accountable government. Common Cause strives to strengthen our democracy by empowering our members, supporters and the general public to take action on critical policy issues.

 

Public Campaign
Public Campaign is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to sweeping campaign reform that aims to dramatically reduce the role of big special interest money in American politics.

 

Green For All
Green For All is a national organization working to build an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty. Green For All is dedicated to improving the lives of all Americans through a clean energy economy.

 

Health Access
HEALTH ACCESS CALIFORNIA is the statewide health care consumer advocacy coalition, advocating for the goal of quality, affordable health care for all Californians. HEALTH ACCESS FOUNDATION undertakes community organizing and education, applied research, and policy analysis, and advocates for reform to benefit health care consumers, both insured and uninsured.

LAANE is a leading advocacy organization dedicated to building a new economy for all. Combining dynamic research, innovative public policy and the organizing of broad alliances, LAANE promotes a new economic approach based on good jobs, thriving communities and a healthy environment.

 

EBASE
The East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy advances economic and social justice by building power and raising standards for working families. Despite the prosperity of our region, there is a growing crisis for working families in the East Bay. Even many full-time workers in the region cannot afford the bare necessities of life—housing, food, and health care.

 

CPI
The Center on Policy Initiatives is a nonprofit research and advocacy center dedicated to the interests of working people in the San Diego region. Through research, community organizing and outreach, CPI seek policy change to promote economic justice and raise workers from poverty to the middle class.

 

California Budget Project
The California Budget Project engages in independent fiscal and policy analysis and public education with the goal of improving public policies affecting the economic and social well-being of low- and middle-income Californians.

 

California Legislative Analyst’s Office
The Legislative Analyst’s Office has been providing fiscal and policy advice to the Legislature for more than 70 years. It is known for its fiscal and programmatic expertise and nonpartisan analyses of the state budget. The office serves as the “eyes and ears” for the Legislature to ensure that the executive branch is implementing legislative policy in a cost efficient and effective manner.

 

California State Auditor
As the State’s independent external auditor, they provide nonpartisan, accurate, and timely assessments of California government’s financial and operational activities in compliance with generally accepted government auditing standards.
