Protesters took the stage during a campus event Wednesday evening held at Zellerbach Hall, resulting in one arrest and several other citations, according to UCPD spokesperson Sabrina Reich.

After climbing onto the stage, campus student and Student Labor Committee member John Penilla was arrested on suspicion of delaying, resisting and obstructing a UCPD officer, according to Reich.

Seven other protesters, Reich said, were detained and cited for trespassing and causing a disturbance but were released later in the evening.

Those arrested and cited were likely protesting the involvement of Marc Benioff, CEO and founder of Salesforce.com, with the event, which also featured musician Lars Ulrich, Reich said.

Outside of Zellerbach Hall, nearly 40 members of AFSCME Local 3299, a UC labor union, also held signs in support of an ongoing speakers’ boycott urging the campus to improve its treatment of subcontracted workers.
